Andy Aligne, MD

Faculty and Staff

Andy Aligne, MD, MPH completed a fellowship in general academic pediatrics and a master's degree in public health at the University of Rochester. As Director of the CARE (Child Advocacy Resident Education) Track and Co-Director of the PLC Program at the University of Rochester, his responsibilities include overseeing the didactic curriculum, teaching evidence-based public health, helping residents plan projects, and assisting in the overall goal setting and evaluation of PLC. His independent research, which focuses on the prevention of asthma and the elimination of pediatric passive smoking, has received international attention. He is interested more broadly in environmental and social determinants of child health, and in improving the effectiveness of community level interventions. Dr. Aligne is also the Director of Pediathink, a health projects consulting firm. His community leadership activities currently include serving on the board of directors of the New York State American Lung Association, and as chairman of the Finger Lakes Regional Community Asthma Network. He is also a member of SHAC: the Smoking and Health Action Coalition of Monroe County. He has advocated locally on the behalf of policies and programs that promote the health of children.

Jeff Kaczorowski, MD and Laura Jean Shipley, MD

Jeff Kaczorowski, MD and Laura Jean Shipley, MD founded and have co-directed the PLC Program since its inception in 1996. Dr. Kaczorowski is an Associate Professor in the Division of General Pediatrics at the University of Rochester. Dr. Kaczorowski is the National Director of the American Academy of Pediatrics Community Pediatrics Training Initiative. In Dr. Kaczorowski's role, he continues to lead efforts to disseminate training in community health and child advocacy for residents across the country. Dr. Shipley is a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Rochester and a primary care pediatrician in private practice at the Panorama Pediatric Group.
Susan K. Bezek, APRN, BC is the Assistant Director of the Sovie Center for Pediatrics at the Golisano Children's Hospital at Strong, and one of the Community Pediatrics Advisory Council Co-Chairs.

Danielle Thomas-Taylor, MD, MPH is the Intern Training Director, Pediatric Attending at Rochester General Hosptial, Senior Clinical Instructor in Pediatrics and Medical Provider at the REACH Program.



Caren Gellin, MD, Coordinator and Specialist in Pediatric Simulation Golisano Children's Hospital at Strong, is the Legislative Advocacy Trainer for the PLC Program.
